Competition entry ”Puutaskut” for a low-carbon housing block located in the emerging area of Verkkosaari in Helsinki. Proposal’s name translates as ”tree pockets” and the name derives from the insets in the building mass which enable planting large trees on the street side. Ecological aspects, low carbon footprint and sustainability were graded evenly in the competition alongside the architecture. The Green Factor method utilized by City of Helsinki translates design decisions such as building materials, heating method and green areas into calculatable data.
