CLT Villa in Vantaa

Villa Miekka is located on a garden plot of about 1600 m² with a gentle slope to the southwest. Designed as a home for a family of four, the complex consists of the main building and a garage building with a green roof attached to it. The total extent of the buildings is approximately 320 m².

The starting points for the plan were the solid wood structure and the assembling of the customer's desired spaces into a functional whole, suitable for a family with children. The large plot made it possible to implement the building mainly on one level, which was also important to the client. The building has places for everyday encounters as well as places to relax. Spaces for different functions are linked together, but each space also forms its own clear area. This loose continuum of spaces has been created by staggering the mass and opening views through the spaces.

The main building consists of two gabled parts on the northern and southern edges of the plot, which reach the longest yard. The length on the north side is the bedroom wing, which also has a standing-height attic space with crafts and sitting areas above. In the southern extension, there is a sauna section with terraces and a jacuzzi, a study and a multipurpose room that can be used, for example, for watching movies. The oblongs are connected by a lower central part, which leads to the festive entrance of the building. In the "meeting area" of the central part, there is also a large living room and a kitchen with a dining room. From all the premises bordering the lunch yard area, there is access to the terrace, where the special feature is -on the covered section representing the dining area- a brick oven.

The frame material of the main building was made of cross-glued solid wood, i.e. CLT. The outside was covered with a solid painted spruce panel. On the inside, the wood was left largely exposed, but tinted audibly light. Oak and shades of oak were used in the fixed furniture, intermediate doors, the sliding glass door of the multi-purpose room, and the acoustic slatted ceiling of the dining room and living room. The interior ceilings of the bedroom wing were made of multi-layer wood board, i.e. rema board, which was processed to match the color of the walls. The fireplace in the living room and the baking oven on the terrace were plastered light.

The building forms a small-scale and sympathetic whole in its surroundings and sneaks into a rather dense area of small houses, giving the environment an invigorating and fresh look.
