Extension of the summer cottage

Villa Deer is a summer cottage connected to the old main building built in the 1960s with a modern extension. The villa is located by the lake in Kisko in Varsinais-Suomi. The starting point was to create a modern and radical extension to pair with the more traditional gabled main building. The slanted end wall and zigzag shape create a contrast to the otherwise moderate rectangular mass. The new and old were combined by matching the roof angles of the new and old parts, and by using similar facade materials.

The extension part was designed to continue from the chamber of the main building as a seamless continuation, which, however, can be separated from each other by a door. A new terrace was built in front of the new part, creating an atrium-style courtyard between it and the main building. There is a large openable glass wall between the extension and the terrace.
