The transformation of Vantaa's art nouveau gem into apartments.
Paviljonki 2 is an Art Nouveau building built in 1908 in Jokiniemi, Vantaa, designed by architect H.R. Helin. The building is one of two "pavilion buildings" built by the Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture, where the institute's laboratory and office functioned until the 1970s. At the beginning of the 20th century, the future president of the republic, Relander, had his office in the building.
The conversion of the pavilion to residential use began in 2018. Avarrus Architects was involved in the project from the beginning, as the company's partner Pauli Siponen was the developer of the project. 6 apartments were built in the Jugend building, of which 4 are larger family apartments, and the rest are smaller 2-3 room apartments.
Restoration and natural ventilation.
The original architectural spirit of 1908 was restored to the building by renewing it over the years
destroyed building parts, doors and windows. In addition to this, natural ventilation was restored to the apartments. The building's protected stairwell was carefully renovated and the plastered facade was restored to pink color. Bricks from the demolished partitions were reused in the ground floor common areas. As a reminder of the building's history as a research institute, each apartment had its own greenhouse built in the building's yard.
