Design of five attic apartments on Eerikinkatu
Avarrus designed four new apartments for the attic of a Helsinki house built in 1928, located at the corner of Eerikinkatu and Hietalahdenkatu, in addition, one apartment on the top floor was extended into the attic into a luxurious two-story apartment. The starting point of the plan was respecting the characteristics of the old building and fitting the apartments into the existing attic space without compromising the quality and comfort of living. The apartments are personal and unique, but all of them have practical layouts, functional space arrangements and plenty of storage space.
The living rooms of the atmospheric and bright apartments open towards the inner courtyard of the building, where each apartment has its own terrace with a view over the roofs of the inner city towards the sea. The bedrooms located on the street side receive natural light from the triangular skylights, which have been carefully adjusted to suit the street view. In the middle of the building frame, in each apartment, natural light from above is provided by light shafts placed in the roof ridge. The rough shape of the building's existing brick ventilation ducts, slanted roof surfaces and high-quality surface materials and furniture create a unique atmosphere in the apartments.
